Acne is usually considered a teenage problem. But did you know about 40 percent of men still fight acne after their 25th birthday? And more than one out of every 10 women is still battling pimples well into middle age!1 But that wasn’t always the case. Acne is a modern disease. In fact, if you [...]
Safe Alternatives to Chemical Skin Care Ingredients

If you spend a moment or two in the beauty section of a department store, you’ll probably walk away feeling totally overwhelmed by all of the lotions, potions, and serums that you’re recommended to use each day.
The beauty industry is booming, and it can get pretty confusing to try to separate the good from the bad, and the safe from the toxic when it comes to your daily skin care regimen. Fortunately, you can go back to basics when it comes to caring for your skin to see the greatest results in a smooth, fresh complexion.
You see, your skin is just like any other organ in your body: living, breathing, and in need of nutrition to stay young and healthy. Just in the same way that your health would be compromised if you constantly ate junk food and never exercised, your skin can be compromised if it’s overloaded with toxic chemical ingredients.
In reality, the majority of commercial beauty products are loaded full of chemical ingredients that affect the health of your skin and could even cause serious issues like skin cancer. Yes, many of these chemical ingredients are hard to pronounce and even harder to figure out what they will and won’t do for your skin.
Refresh, Rejuvenate and Restore Gently

Your skin is starving for attention. And I’m not just talking about dusting on a coat of blush or some lip gloss to help you look your best. On the inside, your skin is craving nutrients, hydration, and a little bit of TLC.
When you take the opportunity to give your skin the nutrients that it needs below the surface, it will reward you with a fresh, youthful complexion that’s obvious for everyone to see.
The best part is that giving your skin what it’s craving is pretty simple. It all boils down to two basic needs to refresh, rejuvenate, and restore your skin from the inside out:

The things we do to keep our hair looking beautiful day after day can really take a toll. Coloring, blow drying, straightening and curling can make your hair look great… but they also do damage. Add pollution, sun and chlorine from the pool during the summer months, and your hair can end up stressed and [...]
Nature’s Best Resources to Protect & Preserve Your Skin

Who knew that something as simple as a little clay could hold the key to beauty transformation?
I personally do not like to get my hands dirty and you may not like it either, but a little mud in your beauty products can go a long way. Our ancestors were onto something. They knew that clay from the earth was rich in minerals and had a number of healing benefits.
For one thing, clay is utterly purifying. A clay beauty mask dries and hardens on the surface of your skin to pull out deep impurities. When you think about the fact that you spend the majority of your day in smoggy air and pollution, a deep, clarifying mask may be exactly what you need to bring your skin back to health.
If you have ever been guilty of rubbing your face or picking at your skin when you’re stressed – I admit it, I have, then it’s likely that you’re transferring oil and bacteria from your hands directly onto your complexion. The best natural remedy for this bad beauty habit is a clay mask, but not just any clay mask.
You Can’t Beat Nature for True Beauty

I’ve met so many naturally beautiful people in my travels. From the Andes Mountains of Peru to Africa and India, people have discovered that Nature provides so many ways to help maintain smooth, young-looking skin.
For example, you’ll find women in South Africa with absolutely gorgeous skin… thanks to a mountain shrub called red tea. Or in the Andes, where women who are exposed to intense sun have remarkably smooth and supple skin. These women use a secret they learned from vineyard workers.
I’ve brought many of these discoveries back with me to my practice. I’ve never been disappointed. And neither have the many patients who’ve benefitted from these discoveries.
The Truth About Aging and Menopause

Stress and hormones may not be the most popular fodder for dinnertime conversation. But that was the topic of discussion on my first night of our “girls’ getaway” in Jamaica.
A group of my friends and I decided to take a five-day vacation to relax and unwind. A few martinis later, everyone was suddenly discussing the different stress factors in their lives and how everything seemed to change past the age of 30.
For starters, our tolerance for drinking had definitely gone down! Our skin regimens seemed to have become significantly more complicated. Our attitudes toward exercise had become discouraging to say the least.
Until my girlfriends and I got together to talk, I thought I was the only one who felt these frustrations. A friend who was over 50 assured the group that it only gets worse with age. This got me thinking: How can we battle the exhaustion that we feel and still preserve our pretty?

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and it is a perfect reflection of your inner health. It would only make sense that your skin needs to be treated with the utmost care – in the same way that you would eat specific foods to protect the health of your heart, your liver or any other vital organ.
Have you put thought lately into the foods you eat that could affect the quality of your skin… for better or worse?

One Resolution You Can Keep

I can’t tell you how many of my patients come in and tell me they still wash their faces with soap or other harsh cleansers. And many skip toning and moisturizing all together. Or don’t do anything at all.
But this isn’t the way you’re going to get the soft, smooth, radiant, younger-looking skin you’re after. After all, youth means beauty in our culture. And a young, beautiful face is impossible to ignore.
That’s why I recommend that if you’re going to make a New Year’s resolution, make it establishing a skincare regimen. It’s one of the easiest resolutions to keep going and will show you some really great results.
