Some people consider a “rosy” glow to be beautiful and healthy-looking, but when the rosiness is rosacea, it can be an embarrassing problem that many people try to hide.

Rosacea is a hereditary condition caused by inflamed sebaceous glands and blood vessels. It is not contagious. Sometimes called “adult acne” because it can cause outbreaks that look like acne, rosacea is believed to affect 14 million Americans. It can also cause burning and soreness in the eyes and eyelids, and if left untreated it can get worse.

New Hope for Rosacea Sufferers

One of my patients came to me quite frustrated last week. She was suffering from another rosacea outbreak.

“I’ve been told not to drink wine, not to eat chocolates, not to go outside,” she said. “I’m missing out on all the fun, and I still end up a mess!”

I hear this from patients all the time. They feel like they can’t do what they like. And they’re tired of spending their hard-earned money on expensive ointments and prescription drug treatments.

They may reduce some of your rosacea symptoms. But they do nothing to cure the condition.
