But Cleopatra knew a solution – a rare form of clay.

In Cleopatra’s day, the kinds of clay found in Egypt were called “bentonite” clays. They contain volcanic ash and other elements, including minerals. But today, these “living clays” that have an electrical charge are called montmorillonite after the town in France where they were first identified. The two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, and the properties of each are very similar.

Montmorillonite clay works on the skin first by gathering an electrical charge as soon as you add water. The clay then swells and absorbs pollutants sitting on the surface of your skin and hiding within your pores.

So instead of smearing on a face cream or soap that just moves the dirt around, this cleansing clay uses this magnetic energy to pull out impurities and make it stick to the clay itself, which of course, washes away with ease.

But there’s something you need to know: You can’t use just ANY clay and expect to get the dramatic results I’m talking about here.

The clay must be of a certain type and must be free of impurities, and that’s the key.

When tested for toxicity, the material was found to be non-invasive to the human organism even at very high doses.

During the testing, the chemists were impressed that no preservatives or additives had been added to the samples. And that it was very unusual that a clay sample that was not full of additives could, “meet and exceed results of other products tested that typically are treated prior to testing.”

The researchers also discovered this clay could kill harmful fungi and bacteria.

In one test, harmful bacterial strains of pseudomonas, staphylococcus and E-coli were added and cultured for 28 days. At the end of 28 days, the bacterial count for all measured zero.

At the end of the study, it was the chemists’ position that bacteria cannot survive in this clay.

What’s more, the clay in Sierra is packed with 73 minerals with just the right ratio of each. And because of their extreme age and where they come from, these minerals are pure and potent.

Two of the most effective minerals in Sierra are:

1. Copper. One study found that a cream containing copper increased elastin in human skin. Elastin is a protein that helps to keep the skin tight and flexible and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Absorption, with a “b,” is a slower process and takes advantage of clay’s unique, porous structure. If you were to look at clay under a microscope you would see holes, ridges and pockets that have the ability to trap the gunk that hides in your pores.

That means that a very small amount of clay has a very large surface area. In other words, if you took just one gram of clay (which is small enough to fit on your fingernail) and measured its surface area, which includes all the pockets and ridges, it would cover almost 800 square meters!

That’s about the size of a large, one-bedroom apartment!

The electrical charge helps the absorption process by attracting dirt to the inner layers of the clay. Sitting in between layers of clay and water, the clay expands as it draws in the impurities hiding in your skin.

Clay is also considered “alkaline.” That means it’s the opposite of “acidic,” and helps to calm, sooth and rebalance your body’s pH level.
